Animal Causes, Pet Charities, Donations and Assistance Animals
|
Do you have a non-profit organization, charity, animal cause that you would like to promote? At HandsnPaws, we are not only interested in selling pet supplies, but informing the public about many of the worthwhile activities that animals perform in animal assistance and pet therapy programs in addition to sponsoring certain charity events. Of course, we cannot give to every animal cause, but we do our best in terms of promotion, sponsorship, free advertising, donations, discounts, rescue and fostering efforts. In fact, the kitties you see on the left were all fostered by the owner of HandsnPaws. Their mother was a pregnant cat that was on the verge of being put to sleep. She was taken care of through her pregnancy and until her kittens were weaned.
We are currently looking to sponsor rescue shelters in the Northeast (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut or Philadelphia) and would specifically like to hear from cat rescues or shelters.
Our latest organization we are proud to sponsor is Kentuckiana Pug Rescue. The rescue is a non-profit organization committed to helping all pugs in need throughout Indiana and Kentucky. We work to find abandoned as well as surrendered pugs new, loving forever homes in which they can live out the rest of their lives.
If you would like to contribute to their organization, please check out their website: www.kentuckianapugs.com . You can also email them at kentuckianapugrescue@hotmail.com.
If you are a consumer, consider similar ways in which you can help the animal community.
Animal medical centers care for thousands of cats and dogs annually. Donations help run the animal medical center and assist with research that is not harmful to animals.
Volunteer as a pet therapist. A number of organizations will help train your pet if it is eligible or will provide you with a pet that can provide some animal companionship in a nursing, rehabilitation or other facility. Such animal assistance programs are of tremendous benefit to people and animals.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is well known for its work operating service animal hospitals, in pet adoption and enforcing animal cruelty laws. If you know of an animal in need of assistance, this is the place to contact.
Before you think about buying a cat, dog or other pet from a pet store, consider a no-kill cat or dog rescue and adoption group. Many of them are staffed by full time volunteers who finds homes for thousands of animals a year. Some allow you to act as a temporary foster home which is a good alternative for those unsure of a long term commitment. Most funds donated to such shelters or groups goes to medical care and food.
If you would like more information on Assistance Animals, Adoption or finding promotion for your cause, visit Adoring Pets. We would appreciate a link to our site from any such organizations with a website and will find some space on ours to promote your activity. Requests for donations or sponsorship should include website url, tax id information and other relevant information for consideration. (See below). Below are a few of the items we recently donated to animal charity events. We find that many organizations could do with an extra pet carriers , mesh car barrier, back seat rider, weekender pet gear bag or pair of dog pajamas ! We will also sell in bulk discounts certain medications such as Terramycin Antibiotic Eye Ointment . This handy product may be used on horses, cats and dogs. It treats primary and secondary infections of the eye in both dogs and cats. It is one of the most versatile of the broad-spectrum antibiotics, and is effective in treatment of infections due to gram-negative bacteria. Many animal shelters find they have a great demand for such a product. It's a sad fact that many cats and dogs housed too long in animal shelters develop disease and behavior problems. Many animals are healthy when they arrive, but without proper care can develop illnesses or simple stress and anxiety. Of the nine million or so dogs and cats that enter animal shelters in the United States every year, about one-half are sadly euthanized.
