Miniature toy dog breeds are primarily companion dogs. Many, in fact, come from Asia and we're certainly glad that these toy breeds have made their way all over the world. Did you know that many of these small dog breeds now weigh as little as 7 pounds from generations of selective breeding? Many of our customers who purchase our small dog carriers and toy dog clothing have dogs that range from the Bichon Frise, originally bred as a companion dog to Yorkshire Terriers which were originally hunting dogs. Now the hunting is done by avid Yorkshire Terrier pet owners who need to find just the right collar or toy breed pet carrier for their little one. The Chihuahua is the smallest of the toy dog breeds and is originally from Mexico. As a companion to the wealthy, the Maltese is a toy dog that would do well with one of our designer carriers. If you are new to owning a pet, the toy dog is the way to go. Though their fragile nature makes them less suitable around young children, they make excellent companion pets for adults. Small Dog Carriers
Generally, the soft-sided carriers are used for small dogs and make good Yorkie carriers or pet carriers for Chihuahuas. They certainly aren't the type of carrier that you would use to put your pet in cargo for airline travel. Because your pet is more likely to fit snuggly next to you, this type of carrier ofen is less stressful for your pet, particularly if used for airline travel. The small size of a soft sided carrier will do a better job at softening any blows from jostling about during a trip. Because there is less room in the pet carrier, you should check for mesh ventilation at the sides or top of the pet carrier or a good peep opening. These small dog carriers are great for short trips to the veterinarian's office or a trip to the local coffee shop with your pet in tow.
Look for good straps on your small dog carrier that are located around your neck or over your shoulder. These are as much for your pets comfort as yours. At the end of the day, you have to know your pet. Cramming a dog into a carrier it is trying to escape is not a good idea. Some pets are find in a backpack-style carrier or one that allows their head to stick out while others may try to break loose. Get your pet used to its carrier before embarking on a trip to see how it adjusts if it is not used to being carried. Some round trips indoors may do the trick.
