Tips for Travellling with Pets
Consider getting your pet familiar with its new pet carrier before commencing on a journey. One good idea is to put a favorite towel at the bottom. Your pet will find the familiar scent comforting and a towel at the bottom of the pet carrier is good for absorbing any "accidents."
Don't forget to include a portable water bottle or bowl so your pet does not get dehydrated. You may want to feed your pet prior to travel and then only lightly.
If you are using a pet carrier for a cat, it's a good idea to purchase some disposable litter trays. They are not very heavy to lug around.
Contrary to popular belief, it's not a good idea to tranquilize your pet prior to a trip unless your vet has advised otherwise. If your pet is upset, you may want to consider not travelling or one of the many products available, such as rescue remedy for calming anxious pets. Of course, sick or pregnant pets should probably be kept at home.
Just like a small member of the family, you have to plan for any trip with a pet by minding that you have such things as restraints, pet carriers, car seat, Fanny Packs, Back Seat Covers, Food Bowls, towels, signs, travel bowls, pet travel bags, pet travel accessories, pet travel crates, dog back packs and other Pet Travel Necessities.
